The White Wagtail is a wide-spread and common sight in much of Europe and Asia. The range of the easternmost subspecies even extends across the Bering Strait as far as mainland Alaska.
While the constant wagging of the tail gives these little fellows their names, we’re not really sure why they do it. One likely theory is that the tail-wagging signals alertness to potential predators, as if saying: “There’s no point in trying to catch me, you should look for an easier meal.”
